  • What is BLK WinterFest?
    BLK WinterFest is a month-long celebration of winter sports and activities for the Black community in Montreal. It takes place every weekend throughout February, coinciding with Black History Month. The festival promotes a sense of belonging, challenges stereotypes, and encourages a healthy lifestyle both physically and mentally.
  • When is BLK WinterFest taking place?
    BLK WinterFest occurs every weekend throughout the month of February, coinciding with Black History Month. Check our event schedule for specific dates and times.
  • What activities are offered at BLK WinterFest?
    We offer a variety of winter activities, including skiing, snowboarding, off-trail skiing, snowshoeing, ice climbing and even an exciting skating maze in the heart of nature. Our aim is to provide something for everyone, regardless of skill level or age.
  • Do I need prior experience to participate?
    No prior experience is required. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, our festival is designed to be inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. Our instructors and guides are here to ensure a safe and positive experience.
  • Can individuals who are not Black still participate in BLK WinterFest?
    We value our allies and prioritize historically marginalized communities. To ensure equitable access, priority registration is extended to BIPOC participants.
  • How do I secure a spot for an activity?
    To secure your spot for any activity during BLK WinterFest purchase your tickets on our website. Please note that spots are limited, so we recommend securing your spot early.
  • Is there an age restriction for participation?
    While some activities have age restrictions, most are open to participants of all ages. Specific age requirements for each activity are mentioned in the event details. Please check the activity description for more information.
  • Is transportation available?
    Transportation options are available for all activities with the exception of ice climbing. Check the event details for specific transportation information related to each activity.
  • Can I come with my own transport?
    Yes participants are welcome to drive down to the event locations and you pay less. Please be sure to check out the location in the event details of the activity selected.
  • What if there is bad weather?
    Weather Clause Activities may be rescheduled in the event of a 60% or more chance of rain with 10 mm accumulation, or if the temperature drops below -25°C (actual, not “feels like”). This decision will be made no later than the day before the activity. Only Hike Mtl administrators can reschedule, and participants will be notified accordingly. Refunds are only issued if the alternative date is cancelled. Please check activity details for alternative dates.
  • Can I bring my own equipment?
    While all activities provide equipment, participants are welcome to bring their own. Check the event details for specific information about equipment availability and requirements for each activity.
  • What if I have experience and don’t need lessons?
    Your welcome to join as well. Take full advantage of all inclusive transport and equipment rentals. Once there your free to explore solo and adventure out on trails alone (available for certain activities).
  • How much does this cost?

  • What is your refund policy?
    BLK WinterFest has a strict no refund policy unless something has happened in extreme circumstances. Please contact us at info@hikemtl.com
  • What do I wear/ I don't know what to wear?
    Here are a few tips to help. Layer up. It helps with temperature change. Wear 3 layers. 3 layers base layer (long sleeve dry fit or merino wool) Mid layer (fleece or breathable sweater) Outer layer (wind breaker, waterproof jacket) *Layer your clothing and dress in appropriate winter wear. Snow pants Gloves and Hat/ neck warmer Extra pair of gloves Extra pair of socks Light backpack or hip pack
  • What do I bring?
    We send out a newsletter on what to bring 48h before each event BUT... Here's a list: Dress in layers 3 layers Base layer (long sleeve dry fit or merino wool) Mid layer (fleece or breathable sweater) Outer layer (wind breaker, waterproof jacket) *Layer your clothing and dress in appropriate winter wear, avoid over dressing as this may cause you to sweat.   • Should I come alone?
    More than 80% of our participants come to our events alone. You’ll make tons of friends and connections. Making friends is part of the BLK WinterFest experience! Engage with fellow participants during activities, strike up conversations, and embrace the friendly atmosphere. You're sure to make tons of friends and connections along the way.
